Sintra is arguably one of the most awe-inspiring places in Portugal. This small town, located within the lush hills of the Sintra Mountains, is the perfect embodiment of enchantment and extravagance. Here are 3 reasons why Sintra is a must!
1. It’s a Game of Thrones Lover’s Dream
You’ll feel like you’ve time-traveled back to the times of this medieval feud for the Iron Throne. So picturesque with its mystical architecture and mysterious aura, Sintra is undoubtedly any GOT fan’s dream. Also, the best part is probably the fact that you can take in all the rich beauty without worrying about heartwrenching murders and unwarranted betrayal (lol).
2. It’s a UNESCO World Heritage Site
Sintra has been recognized to have both cultural and historical significance and is protected by international treaties. From the Moorish Castle to the “Quinta de Regalia,” you’re fully immersed in some of Portugal’s richest, most captivating history. Truth be told, history was by far my least favorite subject in grade school. However, Sintra pleasantly surprised me with its intriguing past.
3. You’ll taste Portugal’s best pastries
Sintra is home to some of the most mouthwatering pastries and sweets you’ll ever have. Luckily, you have to walk *a lot* when exploring the labyrinths of Sintra, so you hardly have to feel guilty about treating yourself to a Portuguese pastelaria!
